The Fall, etc.

inanhourofdreamingI'll say one thing for the Fall -- it really stokes your feminist rage in a lot of ways. Colin Morgan's character is like, a tiny side character, which is kind of fun in the sense that I can work on building him up a bit beyond what we've been given in the ridiculous crossover thing I'm writing, halfway for fun and halfway as a kind of writing exercise to get back into writing.
Jamie Dornan, on the other hand, has zero charisma. It's like someone carved a basic idea of what a hot guy might look like, but forgot to give him life. They keep trying to make me believe women would fall all over him and like...no? WHY. I checked with M, and he agrees -- zero charisma. Dead eyed demon. Something about him is like, what I imagine men think women find attractive because they don't actually get that women find personality attractive. But maybe that's just us?
Anyway, I have some breaks coming up from work -- winter and such, so I'm looking forward to getting some real writing done. I've noticed I have a tendency to add in maybe too much detail, or exposition, so what I'm trying to work on is transitions between that and dialogue, and maybe not keeping things too interior without having things also happening in the exterior. Work in progress, life's a journey, etc.
Anyway, my other news is I HAVE A COUCH FINALLY. I mean, I had a sort-of couch? But it did not fit where it was supposed to go and I ordered this other one like 3 months ago and it finally came and it's PERFECT and I love it. Our apartment is almost actually finished being decorated. I just need to find something to hang on the wall. The cats are in heaven, J is thrilled bc the tv is in my space and now there's an actual comfortable place for all three of us to sit-- although now I'll almost definitely get stuck while J and D are watching terrible shows I don't want to watch.
Also, I rocked my work presentation in DC on Monday and my week of multiple conferences is over, though now I have a SHIT TON of regular work to do. So that's pretty fucking great. As are all of my new colleagues, who I adore and had a blast with. Guys, it makes a HUGE difference if you like your work and your work people. Also, we're getting significantly better healthcare, which the org is subsidizing so we don't have to pay any more and with lower deductibles. So yay for being an adult!
Now it's time to drink some wine and watch the last episode of the Fall so I can keep writing.
