Earning it

‪Something I’ve thought a lot about recently, as I work with some really extraordinary people, is that if you want to enjoy the comraderie of being a part of something great, you have to really earn your place there. Those conversations, the really productive ones that challenge and push you forward, require a lot of prep work. I’ve been really lucky in that I’ve always found friends who are smart, talented, and who expand my own abilities. I think fandom is a lot like that, as well. Which is partially why creating things is a great way to meet and make friends with people within fandom, especially now that tumblr is on its way out.

I’d also say that guys, it’s immensely fulfilling to make new things! Or make new things out of old things. It’s definiely something I’ve been working on recently. Obviously it’s not the only way to engage in fandom, but it’s a really fun one and a great way to get involved and be part of the community. And from a selfish perspective, I want to read more shit and see more art.

All this to say that I’m totally writing that Jack Roth/Tom Anderson fic that no one is going to read but me 🤷🏻‍♀️ Rare pairs are a write it yourself or you won’t get it kind of thing.
